Apple’s share of the UK desktop market just hit 23.4%, its highest point on record. That’s the widely-touted headline, but the more interesting question is what’s driving it; not every industry is adopting Mac at the same rate, and the gap between the fastest and slowest movers is bigger than most people assume.
We pulled together the clearest signals we could find, from device-choice survey data to DCMS’s own industry classifications, and turned them into something you can actually explore.

How this is worked out
By industry: an editorial Apple Affinity Index (0–100), not a directly measured install-base figure. It’s built from Jamf/Vanson Bourne device-choice data (72% of employees pick Mac when offered), 6sense’s industry breakdown of macOS-using organisations, DCMS’s classification of creative industries as the fastest-growing UK sector, and Dr Logic’s own eighteen years supporting Apple fleets across these sectors.
By region: share of UK creative industry businesses located in each region, DCMS Economic Estimates: Business Demographics 2025 — used as a proxy, since creative industries are consistently the most Mac-heavy part of the UK economy.
Why did we bother pulling this together? Because where your industry and region sit on these charts says something real about the IT decisions being made around you: what your competitors are issuing new starters, what your staff will expect when they compare notes with friends at Mac-first companies, and how exposed a Windows-only fleet might be if you’re still relying on it by default rather than by choice.
If you want the full picture, including the economics, the security case, and what the end of Windows 10 support means for the next eighteen months, we’ve put it all in one place.
