Zoom: video meetings, phone, and meeting room AV, supported as part of your IT

Zoom is the default video meetings platform for a large portion of UK businesses, with its product range now extending into cloud telephony (Zoom Phone), webinars and events, meeting room AV (Zoom Rooms), team chat, contact centre, and a growing layer of AI-assisted features. For agencies and professional services firms running hybrid teams, client meetings, and the occasional webinar or town hall, Zoom is often where significant amounts of work happen.

Dr Logic supports Zoom as part of ongoing managed IT for clients who use it. That means getting accounts set up properly, integrating Zoom with your identity platform and calendar, configuring security and recording controls, deploying meeting room hardware where it’s needed, and dealing with the admin and support work day to day. Like most “simple” tools, Zoom gets more complicated at scale, particularly once you start layering on Zoom Phone, Zoom Rooms, and webinars.

This sits inside our IT Success® Plans and connects to the wider IT support work we deliver, including integration with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and whichever identity platform you use.

What Dr Logic delivers with Zoom

  • Account setup and tenant configuration. We deploy Zoom across your business, configure the right defaults for meetings, recording, security, and external participants, and align settings with how your business actually works. Defaults out of the box are not always the right ones.
  • Single sign-on and identity integration. We connect Zoom to your identity provider (Entra ID, Google Workspace, JumpCloud, or Okta) so users sign in with one set of credentials and access is managed centrally. SCIM provisioning automates user creation and deactivation where supported.
  • Security and recording policy configuration. Meeting passwords, waiting rooms, end-to-end encryption settings, recording controls, cloud retention, and external participant policies all need configuring properly. We apply settings aligned with your security and compliance requirements, including Cyber Essentials and any sector-specific obligations.
  • Zoom Phone deployment. For clients moving off legacy telephony (and given the PSTN switch-off, that’s increasingly everyone) we deploy Zoom Phone where it’s the right fit, port existing numbers across, configure call flows, and integrate softphones across desktop and mobile. We’ll be straight about when Zoom Phone is the right call versus Soho66 or Microsoft Teams Phone.
  • Zoom Rooms and meeting room AV. For clients with physical meeting rooms, we specify, deploy, and configure Zoom Rooms hardware (Neat, Logitech, Poly, Yealink) and the supporting AV. A meeting room that “just works” is one of the highest-impact improvements you can make to a hybrid working setup, and one of the most commonly botched.
  • Webinars and large events. For clients running webinars, conferences, or large internal events, we configure Zoom Webinars or Zoom Events, run technical setup ahead of the event, and provide live support on the day where it’s needed.
  • Integration with the wider stack. Zoom connects to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for calendar and contact integration, to Slack and Microsoft Teams for cross-platform meeting joins, and to a wide range of CRM, project management, and recording tools. We handle the integrations and ongoing maintenance.
  • Ongoing admin, licensing, and support. Day-to-day Zoom admin (user changes, licence allocation, room troubleshooting, recording management, plan changes) sits with us as part of the IT Success® Plan. Your team doesn’t need a dedicated Zoom admin doing IT work in their spare time.

Expertise and partner status

Dr Logic supports Zoom across many of the agencies and professional services firms we look after. We have deep working experience with the platform across meetings, phone, rooms, and webinars, and we work with the hardware ecosystem (Neat, Logitech, Poly) that surrounds Zoom Rooms. This complements our Apple Premium Technical Partner work, since the Apple-first creative and professional services firms we serve are often heavy Zoom users with sophisticated meeting room and hybrid working setups.

When Zoom is the right fit, and when it isn’t

Zoom remains a strong default for video meetings, particularly for businesses with regular external participation (client meetings, supplier calls, freelancer collaboration) where Zoom’s universal recognition and simple join experience matter. The meeting product is genuinely excellent and Zoom Phone has matured into a credible cloud telephony platform.

That said, if your team lives in Microsoft Teams, the licence economics often favour using Teams meetings (and Teams Phone for telephony) rather than paying for Zoom on top. Google Meet is bundled with Google Workspace and has improved considerably; for smaller, Google-native teams it can be enough on its own. For cloud telephony specifically, Soho66 offers a UK-focused, more cost-effective alternative to Zoom Phone for businesses with standard telephony needs and no requirement to consolidate phone into the meetings platform.

The honest answer is that the right choice usually comes down to which ecosystem you’re already in and whether the additional cost of Zoom is justified by what you’d lose moving to the bundled alternative. Get in touch and we’ll talk it through.

What does Dr Logic do with Zoom?

We handle setup, identity integration, security and recording configuration, Zoom Phone and Zoom Rooms deployment where applicable, integrations, and ongoing admin and support as part of an IT Success® Plan. Your team uses Zoom; we make sure it’s running properly, securely, and connected to the rest of your IT.

Do you resell Zoom licences?

Zoom is typically purchased directly or through Zoom’s partner channel. What we focus on is helping you pick the right plan and add-ons, configuring everything properly, integrating it with your wider stack, and handling the ongoing admin and support.

What's the difference between Zoom Meetings, Zoom Phone, and Zoom Rooms?

Meetings is the video conferencing product. Phone is cloud telephony (a full business phone system that uses Zoom for calls as well as meetings). Rooms is the meeting room product: hardware in a physical room with cameras, microphones, displays, and a controller, all configured to join meetings cleanly. Most clients start with Meetings and add Phone or Rooms where it fits.

How does Zoom compare to Microsoft Teams?

Teams is the natural choice for businesses deep in Microsoft 365, particularly where Teams is already included in the licence. Zoom still wins on meeting experience for external participation, simplicity, and recognition (clients usually know how to join a Zoom). The right answer often depends on which ecosystem you’re already in and whether the cost of Zoom is justified alongside what Microsoft licences already give you.

Should we use Zoom Phone for our cloud telephony?

Sometimes, yes. Zoom Phone is a credible option, particularly for businesses already on Zoom who want phone and meetings in the same platform. For UK SMEs with more standard telephony needs and a focus on cost, Soho66 often wins. For businesses deep in Microsoft 365 with Teams Phone licensing available, Teams Phone may be the better fit. We’ll model the three properly against your situation.

Does Zoom help (or hurt) with Cyber Essentials and compliance?

Zoom isn’t itself a security product, but how you configure it matters. We apply meeting security, recording retention, encryption, and external participant controls that align with Cyber Essentials requirements. For regulated sectors, recording handling and retention need particular care, and we configure these accordingly.

Is Zoom worth the cost for a business our size?

For businesses where meetings (particularly with external participants) are central to how the team works, the answer is usually yes. For businesses already on Microsoft 365 where Teams meetings would do the job, or smaller teams on Google Workspace where Google Meet is bundled, the maths often favours the alternative. We’ll be straight about which makes sense for your situation.

Ready to Upgrade Your Video and Collaboration Experience?

If you’re rolling out Zoom, planning meeting room AV, considering Zoom Phone for your PSTN migration, or weighing Zoom against the alternatives bundled with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, we’d be happy to talk it through honestly.
