VIPRE: endpoint and email security for businesses where the economics need to fit
VIPRE is a US-based cybersecurity company offering endpoint security, email security and archiving, EDR, and security awareness training. With a long history in the SMB market, VIPRE has built a reputation for capable security products at sensible price points, particularly for businesses where enterprise-grade alternatives like CrowdStrike would be over-specified for the threat profile and budget.
Dr Logic supports VIPRE across client environments where it’s the right fit, alongside the broader endpoint and email security options in our stack. We deliberately work with several products in each category (WithSecure and CrowdStrike on endpoint, Barracuda on email) because no single product is right for every client. VIPRE earns its place where the security need is real but the economics or operational fit favour it over the alternatives.
This sits inside our IT Success® Plans and forms part of the wider cyber security work we do, including managed SOC monitoring through SafeAeon where applicable.
What Dr Logic delivers with VIPRE
- Endpoint security deployment and tuning. We deploy VIPRE Endpoint Security across Mac and Windows devices in client environments where it’s the right product. Mac deployment runs through our MDM stack (Jamf or Addigy) so new devices are protected automatically during onboarding. Policies are tuned for the environment rather than left at defaults.
- Email security and filtering. Where VIPRE Email Security is in scope, we configure inbound filtering, anti-phishing, attachment scanning, and policy controls for the client’s domains. This sits in front of Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace to add a dedicated email security layer.
- Email archiving where needed. For clients with regulatory or contractual requirements around email retention, VIPRE’s email archiving provides a separate, searchable, tamper-evident archive of email traffic. We configure retention policies and access controls aligned with the compliance requirement.
- EDR for clients on the tier. Where clients are on VIPRE EDR, we use the detection and response capability to investigate suspicious endpoint activity, contain compromised devices, and trace what happened. Alerts feed into our managed SOC monitoring where applicable, so detection becomes a continuous service rather than a dashboard nobody watches.
- Security awareness training. VIPRE’s Inspired eLearning training is available as part of the stack for clients on the right tier. Where we run security awareness, we typically use uSecure as the dedicated platform, but VIPRE’s training is a sensible option for clients who prefer to consolidate with their security vendor.
- Monitoring, reporting, and incident response. Alerts from VIPRE feed into our broader security operations work. We investigate, dismiss false positives, action genuine threats, and produce regular reports covering detections, blocked threats, and posture trends.
- Cyber Essentials and compliance alignment. VIPRE supports the malware protection requirement of Cyber Essentials directly. We use it as evidence during certification and re-certification work for clients where VIPRE is the deployed endpoint or email security product.
- Migration and platform transitions. For clients moving onto VIPRE from another product (or moving off it to something else), we plan and execute the migration cleanly, with proper overlap during the transition so there’s no gap in protection.
Where VIPRE fits in the stack
We work with VIPRE alongside several other security products because no single vendor is right for every client. The honest framing is this:
- For most new deployments in Dr Logic’s core client range (70 to 150 user professional services and creative firms), WithSecure tends to be our default endpoint security recommendation on the combination of capability, price, and operational fit.
- For clients with elevated risk profiles, regulatory exposure, or board-level security mandates, CrowdStrike is often the right call despite the higher cost.
- VIPRE earns its place for clients where the threat profile is real but the economics need to fit, where consolidation with email security and training under one vendor matters, or where existing VIPRE deployments make migration impractical without good reason.
The same applies to email security. Barracuda is usually our lead recommendation, particularly for clients who want a serious dedicated email security layer above Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. VIPRE Email Security is a credible alternative, particularly where the client wants endpoint and email security from one vendor.
When VIPRE is the right fit, and when it isn’t
VIPRE is the right call for businesses where serious endpoint and email security are needed but enterprise-grade alternatives would be over-specified for the threat profile or out of reach on budget. It’s also a sensible choice where consolidation across endpoint, email, archiving, and security awareness under one vendor reduces operational complexity. The product set is mature, the management is straightforward, and the support model fits the SMB market it serves.
That said, for businesses with elevated risk profiles, regulatory or contractual obligations requiring best-in-class endpoint protection, or sensitive client data demanding the highest level of detection capability, CrowdStrike is typically the better call. For most clients in our core range, WithSecure offers a balance of capability and economics that’s hard to beat on endpoint specifically. For email security, Barracuda tends to win on dedicated capability, and for security awareness training, uSecure is our dedicated platform of choice.
Other endpoint security products worth knowing about: SentinelOne sits between WithSecure and CrowdStrike on capability and price. Microsoft Defender for Business is bundled with certain Microsoft licences and may be enough on its own for some clients. Sophos is a credible alternative with strong managed services. The right answer depends on what you actually need, what you’re paying for already, and where the business is on its security maturity journey.

What is VIPRE?
VIPRE is a US-based cybersecurity company offering endpoint security, email security and archiving, EDR, and security awareness training. They’ve been in the SMB security market for many years with a reputation for capable products at sensible prices.
Do you manage VIPRE for clients, or just resell licences?
We manage it. Deployment, policy tuning, monitoring, alert response, and reporting are all handled as part of an IT Success® Plan. We don’t sell security products and walk away.
Why does Dr Logic offer multiple endpoint security products?
Because no single product is right for every client. Risk profile, budget, regulatory exposure, existing stack, and operational requirements all vary. For most clients in our core range, WithSecure is our default endpoint recommendation. For elevated risk profiles, CrowdStrike is often the right call. VIPRE earns its place where its specific combination of capability, price, and consolidation makes sense for the client. We pick based on what fits, not on what’s easiest to sell.
How does VIPRE work on Macs?
Does VIPRE help with Cyber Essentials?
Yes. It covers the malware protection requirement of Cyber Essentials directly. Where VIPRE is the deployed endpoint or email security product, we use it as part of certification and re-certification evidence.
How does VIPRE Email Security compare to Barracuda?
Barracuda is usually our lead recommendation for clients wanting a serious dedicated email security layer with the broadest feature set and strongest impersonation defence. VIPRE Email Security is a credible alternative, particularly where the client wants endpoint and email security from one vendor for operational simplicity. The right answer depends on what matters more: best-of-breed in each layer, or consolidation under fewer vendors.
How does VIPRE compare to WithSecure or CrowdStrike on endpoint?
WithSecure tends to win on the combination of capability and economics for most SMEs in our client range. CrowdStrike sits at the top end on capability, with pricing to match, and is the right call for elevated risk profiles. VIPRE sits as a credible middle option, particularly for clients consolidating across multiple security functions or where the budget needs to fit within tighter constraints. The right answer depends on the client.
