Soho66: UK hosted telephony and SIP, deployed and supported as part of your IT
Soho66 is a UK-based VoIP and hosted telephony provider offering cloud phone systems, SIP trunking, hosted PBX, virtual numbers, and call routing services. For UK businesses migrating away from traditional phone lines (which, given the PSTN switch-off, is essentially everyone) Soho66 offers a sensibly-priced, UK-supported alternative without the contract weight or complexity of larger telecoms providers.
Dr Logic deploys and supports Soho66 for clients who want their phone system handled as part of managed IT rather than dealt with separately by a telecoms vendor. That means we handle the setup, number porting, call flow configuration, integration with your other tools, and ongoing support. When something goes wrong with a call, you call us, not a telecoms helpdesk that doesn’t know your business.
This sits inside our IT Success® Plans and connects to the wider IT support work we deliver. The PSTN switch-off (the planned decommissioning of the UK’s analogue and ISDN phone network, now scheduled for January 2027) means most businesses still on traditional lines need to move to VoIP within the next eighteen months or so. We help clients plan and execute that move properly rather than scrambling at the deadline.
What Dr Logic delivers with Soho66
Phone system setup and configuration. We design the call flow that actually fits how your business works (main number, departmental routing, hunt groups, voicemail, out-of-hours handling, holiday routing) and configure it in Soho66. The phone system should match the business, not the other way round.
Number porting from your existing provider. Moving from BT, Vodafone, or whoever you’re currently with to Soho66 means porting your existing numbers across cleanly. We project-manage this end to end so you don’t lose calls during the switch.
SIP trunking for existing PBX systems. For clients with an on-premises PBX they want to keep, we deploy SIP trunks from Soho66 to replace ISDN or analogue lines, extending the life of existing equipment while removing dependency on the soon-to-be-decommissioned PSTN.
Softphone and mobile app deployment. We deploy the Soho66 desktop and mobile apps across your team’s devices, configure them properly, and integrate them with your headsets, conferencing kit, and the rest of your IT stack. Remote and hybrid workers get a proper business phone wherever they are.
Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace integration. Where useful, we integrate Soho66 with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace for contact sync, calendar awareness (so you can see when a colleague is in a meeting), and (where supported) click-to-dial from email or CRM.
Call recording, reporting, and compliance. For clients in regulated sectors, or those who need it for training or quality monitoring, we configure call recording with appropriate retention and access controls. This ties into the broader cyber security and compliance work we do.
PSTN switch-off planning and migration. For clients still on analogue lines, ISDN, or older PBX kit, we plan and execute the migration to VoIP ahead of the deadline. This includes auditing what you have, what depends on it (door entry systems, alarm lines, fax machines, lift phones), and migrating each element cleanly.
Ongoing support and changes. Day-to-day phone admin (adding users, changing call flows, updating voicemails, troubleshooting call quality) sits with us as part of the IT Success® Plan. Your team doesn’t need a separate telecoms relationship.
Why Soho66
Soho66 has built a strong reputation in the UK SME market for one thing in particular: doing VoIP properly without the contract gymnastics and overheads of larger telecoms providers. Pricing is transparent, contracts are short or flexible, support is UK-based, and the underlying platform is reliable. For the businesses we look after, that combination matters more than the additional bells and whistles of enterprise-grade telecoms platforms.
Dr Logic’s team has hands-on experience deploying Soho66 across many client environments, particularly during PSTN migration projects. This sits alongside our Apple Premium Technical Partner work and the broader IT support we deliver, so phones are part of the same managed service as everything else.
When Soho66 is the right fit, and when it isn’t
Soho66 is often the right call for UK SMEs who want flexible, sensibly-priced hosted telephony with proper UK support, particularly for businesses in the 70 to 150 user range with reasonably standard telephony needs (call routing, voicemail, mobile and desktop apps, basic call recording). It’s particularly good for clients moving off legacy phone systems ahead of the PSTN switch-off who want a clean, modern replacement without overcomplicating things.
That said, it’s not always the right answer. Microsoft Teams Phone is the natural choice if your team already lives in Teams and you want telephony fully integrated into your existing collaboration platform; the licence add-on cost can work out well if you’re already on the right Microsoft plan. 8×8 and RingCentral offer more sophisticated contact centre features, advanced analytics, and global capability for larger or more complex deployments. Google Voice integrates cleanly with Google Workspace for businesses on that platform, though it’s more limited on call flow configuration in the UK.
We’ll be honest about whether Soho66 is the right pick for your business, or whether something else would suit better. Get in touch and we’ll talk it through.
What is Soho66?
Soho66 is a UK-based VoIP and hosted telephony provider offering cloud phone systems, SIP trunking, virtual numbers, and call routing for UK businesses. They’re known for sensible pricing, flexible contracts, and UK-based support.
Do you manage Soho66 for clients, or just point them at it?
We manage it. Setup, number porting, call flow configuration, app deployment, integrations, and ongoing support are all handled as part of an IT Success® Plan. When something goes wrong with a call, you call us, not the telecoms provider.
What's the PSTN switch-off and why does it matter?
The PSTN is the UK’s traditional analogue and ISDN phone network, and BT (along with other providers) is decommissioning it. The current deadline is January 2027, having been extended from the original end of 2025. After the switch-off, no analogue or ISDN phone lines will work, which means any business still on those technologies needs to migrate to VoIP first. We plan and execute that migration for clients still on legacy lines.
How does Soho66 work with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace?
Soho66 can integrate with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for contact sync and (in some configurations) calendar awareness or click-to-dial. Where deeper Teams integration is needed (calls directly through the Teams app) Microsoft Teams Phone may be a better fit. We’ll advise based on your stack.
Does Soho66 support call recording for compliance?
Yes, call recording is available with configurable retention. We set it up with appropriate access controls and retention policies aligned with your compliance requirements (whether that’s Cyber Essentials, FCA, GDPR, or sector-specific frameworks).
How does Soho66 compare to Microsoft Teams Phone, 8×8, or RingCentral?
Teams Phone is the natural choice for businesses deep in Microsoft 365 who want telephony in the same app as everything else, and the licence economics can work well if you’re already on the right plan. 8×8 and RingCentral offer richer contact centre and analytics features for larger or more complex setups. Soho66 wins on pricing, flexibility, and simplicity for UK SMEs with standard telephony needs.
Is Soho66 cost-effective for a business our size?
For most businesses in the 70 to 150 user range with reasonably standard telephony needs, Soho66 typically works out well on cost compared to traditional telecoms providers and larger hosted PBX platforms. We’ll model the total cost against alternatives, including Microsoft Teams Phone if you’re already on a suitable Microsoft licence.
