Egnyte: enterprise content collaboration for businesses that have outgrown SharePoint and Drive
Egnyte is a cloud content collaboration platform designed for businesses with serious file management needs: large media and design files, CAD workflows, granular permission requirements, hybrid local-and-cloud setups, and content governance for regulated industries. For creative agencies, architecture practices, life sciences firms, and professional services businesses where the limitations of SharePoint or Google Drive start to bite, Egnyte is one of the few platforms genuinely built for the job.
Dr Logic deploys and manages Egnyte for clients whose content requirements have outgrown what’s bundled with their productivity suite. That’s not most of our clients (Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace cover the majority of agencies and professional services firms perfectly well) but for the ones where it isn’t enough, Egnyte tends to be the answer. The platform handles large files cleanly, supports hybrid setups for offices with significant on-premises storage and bandwidth constraints, and gives the granular permission control that regulated industries and client-confidential work demand.
This sits inside our IT Success® Plans and connects to the wider IT support and cyber security work we deliver. Egnyte typically lives alongside Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace rather than replacing them: email, calendar, and productivity stay on Microsoft or Google; content collaboration moves to Egnyte.
What Dr Logic delivers with Egnyte
- Platform setup and content migration. We deploy Egnyte across your business, structure the content hierarchy properly (departmental, project-based, or client-based depending on how you work), and migrate content cleanly from your existing platform (SharePoint, Drive, Dropbox, network drives, or wherever it currently lives). Migration is usually the most painful part of any content platform change; we handle it without the chaos.
- Permission design and access control. Egnyte’s permission model is one of its main strengths, with granular control down to folder and file level. We design the access model around how your business actually operates: client confidentiality, project segregation, departmental boundaries, external collaborator access, and the right defaults so new content lands with sensible permissions automatically.
- Hybrid cloud and smart cache deployment. For clients with offices where bandwidth is a constraint, or workflows that need fast access to large files locally, we deploy Egnyte’s smart cache or local appliance so files are cached locally without losing cloud sync. This is the layer that makes Egnyte work properly for design studios and AEC firms with multi-gigabyte files.
- Single sign-on and identity integration. We connect Egnyte to your identity provider (Entra ID, Google Workspace, JumpCloud, Okta) so sign-in is centralised and user lifecycle flows through SCIM provisioning.
- Mac and Windows desktop integration. Egnyte’s desktop client (and the Mac-native sync experience in particular) is well-built. We deploy it across your devices through Jamf, Addigy, or Windows management, configured properly for your access model.
- Content governance and DLP. Where it’s in scope, we configure Egnyte’s content governance features: sensitive data classification, data loss prevention rules, retention policies, and content lifecycle controls. For regulated clients or those with strict client-confidentiality obligations, this matters.
- Ransomware detection and content security. Egnyte includes ransomware detection that identifies unusual file activity and can roll back affected content. We configure this alongside the broader endpoint protection (whether WithSecure or CrowdStrike) and managed SOC monitoring through SafeAeon.
- External collaboration and client portals. Sharing folders and files with clients, suppliers, and external collaborators is where most content platforms leak data. We configure Egnyte’s external sharing controls properly so external access is auditable, time-limited where appropriate, and aligned with your governance requirements.
- Ongoing admin and support. Day-to-day Egnyte admin (user changes, permission updates, content reorganisation, governance policy changes, troubleshooting) sits with us as part of the IT Success® Plan.
Why Egnyte (and partner status)
Predatech: independent Cyber Essentials certification and penetration testing, delivered alongside our managed security
Predatech is a UK-based cyber security consultancy and an IASME-licensed certification body for Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus. Alongside certification, they deliver penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, phishing testing, and broader security consultancy. For UK businesses needing independent assessment of their security posture (and the certifications that go with it) Predatech is one of the more established names in the market.
Dr Logic works with Predatech as our preferred independent certification and testing partner. The arrangement is straightforward and reflects how Cyber Essentials is meant to work: we prepare and remediate client environments through ongoing managed IT support, and Predatech performs the independent assessment that delivers the certification. The two functions are deliberately separated because Cyber Essentials requires an independent certifying body to maintain the integrity of the scheme. You cannot have the same organisation both preparing for and certifying compliance with the standard; it would undermine the whole point of independent assessment.
This sits inside our IT Success® Plans and connects to the wider cyber security work we do across endpoint, email, identity, network, and managed SOC capability.
What Dr Logic delivers with Predatech
- Cyber Essentials preparation. We work with clients through the Cyber Essentials scoping, control implementation, and pre-assessment work. By the time the client engages Predatech for certification, the controls are in place and the evidence is ready.
- Independent certification through Predatech. Predatech runs the actual certification assessment as an IASME-licensed body. They review the self-assessment questionnaire, ask follow-up questions, and make the certification decision based on what they find. Dr Logic isn’t involved in the assessment itself, which is exactly how it should work.
- Cyber Essentials Plus preparation and remediation. Cyber Essentials Plus adds a hands-on technical audit of a sample of devices: vulnerability scanning, configuration checks, and verification that controls are actually working in practice. We prepare clients for the audit, remediate anything that needs fixing first, and make sure the estate is in shape for the test.
- Cyber Essentials Plus assessment by Predatech. Predatech runs the hands-on technical assessment, scans the sample of devices, verifies the controls, and produces the certification (or the remediation list, if something needs fixing first). The audit is independent of our prep work.
- Penetration testing referrals. For clients needing external or internal penetration testing, web application testing, or cloud security assessment, we refer to Predatech and coordinate the engagement alongside our managed IT support. Penetration testing results feed into our remediation work and ongoing security planning.
- Annual recertification cycle. Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus are annual certifications. We manage the recertification cycle so clients don’t lapse, coordinating Predatech’s assessment scheduling alongside the maintenance work we do across the year.
- Remediation and ongoing improvement. Where assessments surface gaps (whether minor configuration issues or more significant control weaknesses) we handle the remediation as part of the managed IT service. The point of certification isn’t the certificate; it’s the security posture that earned it.
- Integration with the broader security stack. Cyber Essentials evidence draws on the work we already do across endpoint protection (WithSecure or CrowdStrike), email security (Barracuda), identity (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, JumpCloud), network (Cisco Meraki), and managed SOC capability through SafeAeon. The certification reflects the broader managed security service, not a snapshot exercise.
Why Predatech (and how the relationship works)
Predatech is an IASME-licensed Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus certification body with a strong track record working through MSP partners. They understand the relationship: the MSP prepares the client, the certification body provides independent assessment. The handover works cleanly, the assessments are thorough, and clients get genuinely useful feedback rather than a tick-box experience.
This separation between preparation and certification is the right way to run Cyber Essentials. We don’t certify our own work, and we wouldn’t trust an MSP that did. Independence in the assessment is what gives the certification its meaning.
Dr Logic’s role sits alongside our Apple Premium Technical Partner work and the full managed IT and security stack we deliver. Predatech sits as the independent assurance layer that confirms (or challenges) the security posture we’ve built.
When Cyber Essentials and penetration testing are the right call
Cyber Essentials is increasingly a baseline requirement, not an optional badge. UK government contracts require it. Many enterprise customers now require it from their suppliers. Cyber insurance underwriters often expect it. For most professional services firms, creative agencies, and any business handling client data, the question isn’t whether to get certified but when.
Cyber Essentials Plus adds the hands-on technical audit, which is a meaningfully higher bar. It’s the right call for businesses with elevated client expectations, regulatory exposure, or contractual obligations that require Plus specifically, or simply for businesses serious about evidence rather than self-attestation.
Penetration testing is a different exercise: testing whether your security controls actually withstand real attack techniques. It’s the right call for businesses with higher risk profiles (financial services, legal, M&A advisory, healthcare-adjacent), those handling particularly sensitive client data, businesses preparing for SOC 2 or ISO 27001, or any business that wants real evidence of resilience rather than control checklists.
We’ll be honest about which makes sense for your business and when. Get in touch and we’ll talk it through.
