iOS 27 was announced at WWDC26 on Monday. The headline is Siri AI – covered separately – but the update carries a range of changes that matter for organisations managing iPhone fleets. Here is a practical summary.
Compatibility: where Apple drew the line
iOS 27 supports iPhone 12 and later. The iPhone 11 and the original 2020 iPhone SE are cut off.
Siri AI Hardware Requirement: The full Siri AI experience requires an iPhone 17 Pro or 17 Pro Max. Devices below that threshold will run iOS 27 but with a reduced or absent Siri AI feature set. If your organisation deployed iPhone 16 models at scale, communicate this proactively to avoid user confusion when the OS ships in September.
Key changes for managed deployments

Timeline
- Now: Developer beta available following the keynote.
- July 2026: First public beta.
- September 2026: Full release, expected alongside iPhone 18.
Recommendation: Enrol a small number of test devices in the public beta from July. The two months between public beta and general release is a practical window for validating your MDM profiles, testing Siri AI restrictions, and confirming that any managed apps behave correctly on the new OS before you are committed to pushing it fleet-wide.
What is not changing
No new hardware was announced at WWDC26. iPhone 18 is expected in September alongside iOS 27, but no details were shared at the keynote. Your existing managed iPhone fleet does not require immediate replacement decisions based on today’s announcements – the cutoff affects iPhone 11 and the 2020 SE only.
Action Point: Run a fleet audit now to identify any iPhone 11 or 2020 SE devices still in active use. Those devices will not receive iOS 27 and will fall out of Apple security update coverage once iOS 26 support ends – typically 12 to 18 months after a new iOS release. Begin the replacement conversation now rather than at crisis point.
