Exploring the B Corp Journey: Tree Planting on Dartmoor with B Local Devon

A row of tall, leafless trees stands along a grassy field on Dartmoor, with a fence and hills visible in the background under a cloudy sky—a scene shaped by conservation and tree planting efforts.

Last week, Claire and Katie swapped keyboards for spades.

They joined Devon businesses on Dartmoor for a morning of tree planting with Moor Trees, in partnership with B Local Devon, a collective of B Corp organisations committed to balancing purpose and profit.

Over the course of a couple of hours, around 150 trees were planted. It was cold, muddy, wet… and entirely worthwhile!

For us, the morning was about more than planting saplings – it was part of a broader conversation about what responsible business looks like and whether pursuing B Corp certification is the right path for Dr Logic.

What Is B Local Devon?

B Local Devon is a regional network of B Corp businesses operating across the county. It brings together organisations that have either achieved B Corp certification or are working toward it, creating space for collaboration, knowledge sharing and collective action.

The B Corp framework evaluates businesses across governance, environmental impact, employee wellbeing, community contribution and customer stewardship. Certification requires measurable standards rather than aspirational statements.

B Local chapters exist to connect those businesses regionally, encouraging practical engagement rather than abstract commitment. The Dartmoor session was one such example. Local organisations came together to support Moor Trees’ rewilding and habitat restoration work, contributing directly to Devon’s natural environment.

Why Tree Planting Matters

Moor Trees is dedicated to restoring native woodland across Dartmoor and Devon (and just last month, they hit the milestone of 200,000 native trees planted.) Dartmoor in particular features a rich but delicate ecosystem, and replanting native species strengthens biodiversity, improves soil health and contributes to long-term carbon sequestration.

Claire and Katie spent the morning planting young trees that, over decades, will shape local landscapes. Environmental responsibility can easily become conceptual when discussed in offices and reports. Standing on Dartmoor in February soil makes it tangible.

In addition, it prompts us to ask questions about how we support our team, how we engage with our community and how we measure impact beyond commercial performance.

Learning from Other Businesses

One of the most valuable aspects of the Dartmoor session was the opportunity to meet other B Corp businesses. Conversations ranged from certification processes to operational adjustments to the realities of balancing growth with measurable impact. Hearing directly from organisations that have completed the process provides clarity that no checklist can replace.

The B Corp movement emphasises practical improvement over marketing language, and that resonates with us. Exploring certification means understanding where we already align with those principles and where change would be required.

In the meantime, we remain steadfastly committed to our employees, local communities and the environment, balancing growth with purpose.

Thank you to B Local Devon and Moor Trees for hosting a genuinely valuable morning on Dartmoor.
