Apple Intelligence has always required a specific tier of hardware to run at all. What’s new this cycle is a second, separate constraint layered on top: how much you can actually use it in a day.
A usage limit, not just a device requirement
Apple confirmed a daily usage limit on Siri AI within iOS 27. Once that limit is reached, a paid “expanded access” tier is available for those wanting to continue at a higher volume that day. Apple has not published pricing for expanded access at the time of writing.
Access Angle: device eligibility and usage volume are now two separate things to check, not one. A business could confirm every device in its fleet is Apple Intelligence-capable and still find staff hitting a daily Siri AI cap partway through the day, an operational detail that eligibility alone doesn’t capture.

Why the coupling matters for planning
Budget Angle: any business building workflows around Apple Intelligence rather than treating it as a background feature should check actual Siri AI usage volume against the daily limit before assuming unrestricted access. Since expanded-access pricing isn’t public, budgeting for it isn’t possible yet, worth revisiting once Apple publishes the figure rather than estimating it now.
The Short Version: hardware eligibility was always the first gate for Apple Intelligence. Usage volume is now the second. Siri AI’s daily limit and the paid tier beyond it are confirmed; what it costs isn’t, and won’t be until Apple says so.
